Oscar-winner O'Neal, 44, was seen allegedly conducting the illicit deal on Sunday evening and has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
When approached by officers who had witnessed the transaction outside a Chinese restaurant on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, she is said to have asked them: "Do you know who I am?" before claiming to be researching a movie role.
Since becoming the youngest ever Academy Award winner aged 10 for her performance in 1973 film Paper Moon, in which she starred opposite her father, Ryan O'Neal, her life has spiralled downward.
